We recently drove over to the coast to camp and hike through the Redwoods. It was about 8 hours from Reno, so you really need a three or four day weekend to do it. We stayed in a hotel on the way there because we left so late in the day, and then finished up the trip the next morning. We wanted to camp at Gold Bluffs Beach, but it was closed due to a landslide, so we went over to Prairie Creek campground instead. There was plenty to see and do with the kids, and everything was just inspiring. The kids loved playing at the beach, but they also liked hiking through the Tall Trees Grove. The weekend was just too short!
